CLALLAM COUNTY – Clallam County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sequim man Wednesday after he violated a restraining order that prohibited him from having any contact with his 12-year-old son.

Officials say 42-year-old Michael Peralta unlawfully took custody of his son while in the care of family members, near the corner of Hendrickson and Priest Roads.

Peralta was served the restraining order in March. Deputies quoted him as saying at the time that he would rather die than have his children taken from him. That led to his being served with a court order to surrender all of his firearms. Peralta has an extensive criminal history and is known to resist arrest.

After taking his son Wednesday, Deputies were able to use GPS information to locate his phone at the Port Angeles Walmart. They found his car in the parking lot and his son in the store, but Peralta himself had taken off. He was later spotted walking along Masters Road. After attempting to flee, he was arrested and charged with Violation of the Restraining Order, Custodial Interference 1st Degree, and Resisting Arrest.
