CLALLAM COUNTY – The Port of Port Angeles announced Thursday the times and locations for three listening sessions aimed at giving county residents a chance to air their questions and concerns about John Wayne Marina.

There will be a listening session held in each commission district, consisting of a brief presentation by the Port staff followed by public comment. All three meetings will be on Monday, July 2, with the first one in Forks from 10:00 AM to noon at the Rainforest Arts Center. In Port Angeles they’ll meet from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the City Council Chambers on 5th Street. The final session will be in Sequim from 6:00 until 8:00 at the Transit Center on Cedar Street.

At least two developers have expressed interest in buying the publicly-owned property, and taxpayers are facing an estimated 22-million-dollars in repairs and upgrades in the next 15 years or so. Port officials say those funds would have to come from a new tax levy, and it’s been suggested that the time to put that before the voters will be this November.

So far, public comment has been overwhelmingly against selling the marina, but most of that has come from people living in District 3, nearest the marina. Port Commissioner Steve Burke:
