PORT ANGELES – The City of Port Angeles does not allow ride-hailing companys such as Uber and Lyft to operate within city limits, but it looks like that’s about to change.

After hearing from people who would like to operate one of the Transportation Network Companies, or TNC’s, the City Council has begun discussing whether to change the existing code to catch up with the times.

As written, the existing For-Hire Vehicle ordinance only allows for taxi cabs to operate on an on-call basis. A new draft ordinance would allow the TNC’s to operate, allow for taxis to be hailed from the street, and require both companies and drivers to be licensed by the City. The draft was read at the last council meeting, and Councilman Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin is confident it will be adopted:

The next council meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday the 18TH. Council members voted to push their meeting to Wednesday in order to avoid a conflict with the Lefties’ All-Star game Tuesday night.
