PORT ANGELES – Clallam County may rework its governmental organization to create a new finance department.

During a work session yesterday, county commissioners talked about the possible change that would merge personnel from the auditor and commissioners offices.

Before that happens, county residents would have to vote on changing the charter. A hearing on that is set for July 31st.

The reorganization comes as the county looks to replace retiring administrator Jim Jones. County commissioners say they want to find ways to refocus the work for the next administrator to more on day-to-day operations and less on budgets. Commissioners have talked about possibly creating two positions: an executive to oversee operations and a finance lead to lead the finance department.

The county is still searching for a new administrator. Jones had planned to leave his post in September, but says he can stay on into October.
