PORT ANGELES – An Olympic Peninsula couple has learned the hard way that stealing from the National Park is a federal crime.

Randy Eastman of La Push and Brianne Decker of Beaver were arrested by Park Rangers on Saturday for trying to steal money from an entrance fee canister in the Sol Duc Valley.

Both Eastman and Decker appeared in Federal Court in Tacoma on Monday and face multiple counts of Theft of Government Property. Eastman also faces charges of Possession of Burglary Tools and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Ongoing investigations tied Eastman and Decker to multiple thefts from fee canisters at various locations around Olympic National Park.

Park Rangers say if you see something suspicious in any park area, stay safe and report it as soon as possible by dialing 911, or talk to any Park employee for help.
