JOYCE – A brush fire erupted near Joyce last evening.
District 2 Fire Rescue was called to help fight the fire burning on steep terrain near Highway 101 and Joyce Access Road.
The fire was reported as a smoke investigation at about 7:45 last night. On arrival units found the fire burning on DNR lands in a previously logged area.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue responded with two brush engines, one water tender, two command vehicles and an ambulance. Shortly after arrival a DNR Fire Forester arrived and took command of the fire. DNR responded with multiple engines and firefighters. Clallam 2 personnel were able to return to protect their district while leaving one water tender and two personnel at the scene to support DNR.
Firefighters say the fire serves as a reminder to extra cautious when outdoors this time of year. Even the smallest of sparks can ignite a large fire. In addition, all outdoor burning has is prohibited under current burning restrictions established by the Clallam County Fire Marshal. Only 3 foot diameter recreational fires in approved fire rings are allowed
