SEQUIM — Similar to Port Angeles, the City of Sequim is conducting a Housing Needs Assessment of it’s own, but the problems Sequim needs to address are not exactly the same.
As a retirement community, the Sequim area has plenty of housing for older folks looking to buy a home, and unlike Port Angeles, there’s no shortage of new homes being built. One of the problems is: Where are the working people supposed to live?
That’s Barry Berezowsky, Community Development Manager. He says they’ve hired a consultant as part of their assessment. They’ve also posted a questionnaire online, and they’re asking the residents of Sequim to express their opinions about housing conditions, preferences, and priorities.
Berezowsky says the City Council is taking a look at policies and codes that will encourage developers to build a variety of housing options and still make a profit.
A link to the survey will be on the homepage of the City website, sequimwa.gov, through Friday, August 31. Participants are eligible to be included in a drawing for a $250 gift certificate.
