OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK – There appears to be a break in the year-old case of the disappearance of Jacob Gray with the discovery of human remains at a campsite in Olympic National Park on Friday. Park officials say items found at the scene appear to match those associated with Gray.

Camping gear and clothing were found in a remote camp by a group participating in a marmot survey, who reported it to Park officials. On Saturday morning Park Rangers conducted a detailed search of the area and found human skeletal remains.

The 22-year-old Port Townsend resident’s unattended bicycle and bike trailer were discovered along Sol Duc Hot Springs Road on the afternoon of April 6, 2017, leading Park Rangers and dozens of volunteers to conduct a search in that area for several days, turning up no clues. Some light clothing and camping gear were unaccounted for, however.

Clallam County Coroner Mark Nichols told KONP that his office would be working with Park officials by receiving any remains, and would then forward them to the King County Coroner’s Office for identification, as well as determination of cause and manner of death.
