PORT ANGELES – A form that was filed with the County Auditor’s Office one day too late by the Clallam County Commissioners has stymied their effort to get an item on the November ballot.

The Commissioners were planning to ask voters to let them change the Charter to allow them to create a Finance Department that would separate those duties from the current job description of the County Administrator. Some last-minute editing ran them right up against the deadline.

Commissioner Bill Peach:

Commissioner Mark Ozias put it this way:

With Jim Jones retiring in September, Commissioners were hoping to lighten the load of the next Administrator by creating a Finance Department and appointing a CFO. Both Peach and Ozias say there are still some good options for that.
