PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles City Council has announced a public meeting for next Wednesday, August 22 to further address an amendment to city code that would allow recreational vehicles and certain trailers to be dwelling units under temporary use permits during times of City declared housing shortages.

Port Angeles City Council member Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin presented a draft resolution in May that would allow city residents to park up to two RV’s on their property and rent them out as temporary housing.

Schromen-Wawrin sees it as a relatively quick way for the City to alleviate some of the impacts of homelessness while addressing the lack of affordable housing:

In other words, if a landowner owns an RV and wants to rent it out by the year, he or she could get a permit to do that. If someone owns an RV and finds a landowner that will rent them a place to park it legally and with the necessary hook-ups, they would apply jointly for a permit.

Again, that public hearing, before the city’s planning commission, will be on August 22 at 6:00 p.m. in the Port Angeles Council Chambers.
