PORT ANGELES – Health officials are advising of unhealthy air conditions in our area through the next couple of days.

Winds switched to north, northeasterly and have pushed smoke from surrounding wildfires into the region.

And unlike the smoky conditions last week, the smoke is expected to drift even closer to the surface this week. That can cause those with underlying health conditions and respiratory ailments trouble. You’re urged to stay indoors if you suffer from breathing issues.

The National Weather Service has issued air quality alerts for much of Washington state.

The service says air quality in Western Washington is expected to be the worse today and tomorrow with some improvement by Wednesday.

There is also a red flag fire warning up for the western part of the Clallam County through Tuesday.
