PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles Planning Commission recommended Wednesday night against a proposed ordinance that would have allowed residents to rent RV’s as temporary housing on their property.
Councilmember Lindsey Schromen-Wawrin saw it as a way to address the local housing shortage and homeless issues on the short term, but the overwhelming response from citizens at the meeting was to strike it down.

Objections included concerns about reduced property values, code enforcement, and the temporary status of the permits that would have been issued by the city.
Schromen-Wawrin says the RV ordinance was really the only short-term solution on the table to address what he believes is a housing crisis in Port Angeles. He says he’ll now focus on the work the council is doing to find middle and long-term solutions.

It’s worth noting that, while the Planning Commission recommends against the RV ordinance, the City Council has the final word on the matter.
