SEQUIM – Sheriff’s Deputies have arrested a Sequim-area man in connection with an excavator that was stolen back in August.
Acting on a tip about an excavator stored in a garage in the 800 block of Jamestown Road, deputies got a search warrant, found the machine, and arrested Jason Hutt last Friday the 14TH on a charge Felony Theft.
The $26,000 excavator was stolen from a job site on Kirner Road on August 20, and although neighbors reported hearing engines running in the early morning hours, no one saw anything.
The subsequent investigation revealed that Jason Hutt rented an excavator and trailer from a local rental company, and then used the trailer to steal the other excavator from the Kirner Road job site. Hutt stored the stolen excavator in his garage, which is about a mile and a half away from the job site, then returned the rental excavator and trailer to the rental company.
