A Marysville composting company has agreed to pay more than $785,000 to settle a class-action lawsuit over bad smells from its plant.

Cedar Grove Composting agreed to the settlement with Marysville residents, saying it would also spend $1.5 million to reduce the potential for malodorous emissions.

The company has denied the suit’s allegations, and won a previous suit that went to trial, but it’s settling to reach a resolution and to “have the ability to refocus our efforts 100 percent back to providing this valuable service for the community.”

The settlement payments will be made to those who file the proper paperwork and qualify.

The company says odor complaints have reached a record low recently.
