PORT ANGELES – The 17TH Annual Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival on the Port Angeles waterfront promises to be bigger, better, and crabbier. The tent has been expanded to 17,000 square feet to keep more people dry if the weather gets wet, they’ve brought in more music and booths than ever before,  there’s extra crab-cooking equipment to keep the dinner lines moving faster, and they expect to break last year’s record in crab sales.

Out-of-towners love this festival, for good reason, and they’re going to come in droves. So we thought we’d give you, the locals, some tips on how best to avoid the crowds.

Here’s organizer Scott Nagel’s number one tip:

So avoiding the mid-day arrival of the Coho ferry is key.

You should also keep in mind that Friday is Crab Feed Discount Day and dinners are four dollars off.

Another hot tip is that Sunday is a good day for locals because the festival is going full-steam but, except for the noon ferry, most of the tourists have come and gone.

If you prefer to get your crabs to go, Nagel says you really should try fishing for crabs at the crab derby out on the pier.

The 17TH Annual Dungeness Crab and Seafood Festival is Friday noon to 10, Saturday 10 to 10, and Sunday 10 to 5. Admission is free.
