PORT ANGELES – A year ago today, we reported that the late Quinn Kintner of Port Angeles had been nominated for a Governor’s Trophy for her work to improve access in our town for people with disabilities. The Governor’s Trophy is Washington State’s highest honor given to a resident with a disability.

A year later, we’re happy to announce that this coming Saturday is the grand opening of the new all-inclusive playground at Quinn Redlin Kintner Memorial Park (formerly known as Georgiana Park).

The ribbon cutting ceremony is at 1:30 p.m., and they’ll be serving popcorn, hot dogs, and root beer floats.

In 2007, Kintner’s senior project in High School focused on ADA accessibility. She traveled to each of the parks in Port Angeles and reported on the areas she had trouble accessing. Because of all the data she collected, she went on to act as a consultant to the City regarding the accessibility of our parks.

That’s this coming Saturday October 13, from 1 to 3PM, the grand opening of Quinn Redlin Kintner Memorial Park, at the corner of Washington & Georgiana Streets.
