COUGAR, WA – The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office says a group of scouts has discovered the body of a missing hiker in the Swift Reservoir, south of Mount St. Helens.
Deputies responded at 12:27 p.m. Saturday. They say a group of scouts was camping near the Swift Campground when they made the discovery.
Investigators identified the deceased person as 18-year-old Garrett M. Canada of Kelso. Canada was reported missing on Oct. 15 while hiking near Lava Canyon.
Crews conducted an extensive, multi-day search, but the search was eventually suspended. At the time, evidence suggested Canada had fallen into the water.
The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy.
