VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — Officials with the Cowlitz Indian Tribe are asking a Clark County judge to block the release of surveillance video of an alleged assault at its casino.

The tribe sued the Clark County Sheriff’s Office last month to stop the agency from handing over the video to a man who says he was attacked by a group of people in the ilani Casino.

Tribal officials provided the video to the sheriff’s office, which is investigating the October incident. Lawyers for Richard Christie then filed a public records request seeking the video.

Tribal officials say releasing the video will compromise security and put employees and customers at risk. They also argue that as a sovereign nation the tribe is not subject to state public records law.

A judge is scheduled to hear the case Friday.
