PORT ANGELES – A controversial decision to remove the Giant Sequoia tree from Lions Park in Port Angeles has not changed, despite some passionate protesting at the site and at this week’s Council meeting.

The tree was slated to come down on Monday of this week. That action was called off the day before by Mayor Sissi Bruch due to concerns for the safety of protesters and city staff, and also to give folks on both sides of the issue one more chance to review the issues.

Here’s City Manager Nathan West with a little history of the process.

West went on to explain why he thinks it was a good idea to call a time out this week before going ahead.

West concluded by telling us that in the end, the tree will still be coming down.
