PORT ANGELES – There’s a new Police K9 in Port Angeles, but he and his handler still have some training to do before they’re ready to go to work.

Copper is a 15 month-old German Shepherd. Copper and his partner, Officer Whitney Fairbanks, will undergo training in early 2019 and are expected to be back on patrol in early springtime. Copper will be trained in tracking, handler protection and will also be used for community demonstrations.

Cooper was purchased with a grant provided by the Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation. The grant was made in memory of James Halloran, a former Port Angeles/Sequim resident and a strong supporter of law enforcement. Mr. Halloran was previously the president of the Mary P. Dolciani Halloran Foundation until his passing in 2005.
