SEQUIM – Sequim lost a prominent leader over the weekend with the passing of Walter Schubert on Saturday.

Professionally, Walt was in real estate, but was elected to Sequim’s City Council in 1998, eventually becoming Mayor in 2002.

He led both the Clallam County Economic Development Council and the Sequim Chamber of Commerce. He also headed the Sequim Food Bank for a time and in 1999, the Sequim Association of REALTORS selected Walt REALTOR of the Year. In 2009 the Sequim Chamber of Commerce designated Walt and his wife Sherry ‘Sequim Citizens of the Year’.

Walt was a longtime supporter of Sequim High School sports, as well as a founding member of the Sequim Education Foundation.

Walter Schubert was 78.
