PORT ANGELES – If you own a business or work a cash register, the Port Angeles Police Department is saying you should be on the lookout for a new kind of counterfeit cash being passed around lately.

They’ve had multiple calls about bills that look a lot like US currency that has been stamped with red Chinese lettering.

These bills are actually Chinese training money, which is used by Chinese tellers to practice counting U.S. currency. We’re told the red stamp translates as “Not to be used as real currency”.

PAPD says that, while this is not an epidemic, some businesses have accepted the training money for goods or services.

The bills should be easy enough to detect because they don’t have any of the security features built into modern cash. They’re suggesting that anyone who handles cash for a living should consider watching the video at USCurrency.gov on how to authenticate U.S. Currency.
