EASTON, WA – One person has been killed among several crashes on an icy I-90 across Snoqualmie Pass, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The freeway was closed in both directions for several hours today. Eastbound traffic was being held at North Bend’s Exit 34, while westbound traffic was being stopped at Ellensburg and Easton due to the number of collisions that needed to be removed.

On the eastern side of the pass there were six crashes in the westbound lanes involving three semi-trucks and three passenger cars. In the eastbound lanes a mile away, four semis collided with a car, killing at least one person.

Temperatures had been in the mid-30s overnight with mostly rain, but dropped to 32 degrees early Friday morning, causing ice to form on the roadway. The freeway closure has delayed the opening of the Snoqualmie Summit ski resort.
