PORT ANGELES – 24th District Representative Mike Chapman wants changes in the state’s tax on businesses he says will help rural companies.

Chapman told the Port Angeles Business Association Tuesday, his number-one priority this legislative session is changing the Business and Occupation tax to give smaller, rural manufacturers a break.

Chapman is sponsoring on bill that would change the B & O tax on small manufacturers to the much lower level now paid by Boeing…

Chapman also is looking to extend the differential rate for the pulp and paper industries to 2054. He says giving those breaks can help get local mills reopen since they will be able to predict their future tax rates…

The Democrat from Port Angeles says he wants to create better bi-partisanship. He says all his proposals have support from Republicans…

The legislature begins its session in Olympia on Monday.
