SEATTLE — Four days into the Alaskan Way viaduct closure in Seattle, contractors are said to be making good progress on tunnel ramp construction, according to the Washington State DOT.

Crews were busy removing geofoam at the temporary ramp at Royal Brougham Way on Tuesday. Geofoam is a substitute for fill soil and was used to hold up the temporary roadway at the tunnel’s south end.

Striping is also underway for portions of new roadway.

Crews will then focus on installing highway barriers and pouring concrete.

The concrete could prove to be one of the most time-consuming aspects of the process. It’s expected to take two weeks for the concrete to cure before it’s safe for cars to drive on.
