PORT ANGELES – The State Patrol says impaired driving was involved in a crash on Highway 101 west of Port Angeles.

It happened about 3:30 Thursday afternoon just east of the Elwha River Bridge.

Troopers say a pickup driven by 43-year-old Tarance Gilham of Port Angeles crossed the center line and nearly hit several westbound vehicles.

A minivan driven by 35-year-old Brandon Melville of Port Angeles was one of the oncoming vehicles. Melville swerved into the eastbound lane to avoid a collision with the pickup. Gilham swerved his pickup back into the eastbound lane, hitting the minivan.

Gilham and Melville were both hurt and taken to Olympic Medical Center.  Melville’s family says his wife and two young children were also hurt but were treated at the scene.  The State Patrol reports a passenger in the pickup was also uninjured.

The crash partially blocked Highway 101 for five hours.  The accident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
