SEATTLE (AP) — Tens of thousands of people are without power here in our state and there are concerns about flooding as snow turns to rain in many parts of western Washington.

Sea-Tac Airport has received over 20 inches of snow so far in February, the snowiest month in more than 50 years.

About 11,000 Seattle City Light and 72,000 Puget Sound Energy customers were without power as of about noon Tuesday.

Interstate 90 is closed across Snoqualmie Pass due to the severe weather and avalanche danger. One state trooper said conditions on the pass are the worse he’s seen in eight years.

Semitrucks crashes and car spinouts shut down the pass on Monday, killing one person.

More than 53 inches of snow fell in just 48 hours at Snoqualmie. Poor visibility and avalanche danger make it too dangerous to reopen the freeway.
