PORT ANGELES – The upcoming shut down of the William Shore pool in Port Angeles threatened to displace about 80 youths involved in competitive swimming.

But the Port Angeles Swim Club may have found a temporary home to splash into during the closure.

Port Angeles chiropractor James Halberg’s office on Lauridsen Boulevard has a two-lane, 25-yard pool. He’s offered to let the club use it.

The catch:  The pool hasn’t been used in many years and needs a lot of work.

Swim club head coach Jessica Johnson says the club is fundraising for the minimum $25,000 dollars needed to get the repairs done.

Swim Club members and families will be hitting the streets for fundraisers in the coming weeks. They also will seek grants that might help too.

The club will have to use the pool in shifts, since it is so small. The Sequim YMCA has agreed to let the club use its facilities for meets while William Shore is shut down.

William Shore will close in April for about a year.

The renovation and expansion design will include a new entrance and locker rooms, a new warm water exercise pool that can hold up to 40 people, a new activity pool with a beach entry, lazy river, and a vortex ring, and a spa for up to 10 people.
