FEDERAL WAY, Wash. (AP) — The parents of a Seattle area high school football player who died during a team workout are suing the school district.

The wrongful death lawsuit against Federal Way Public Schools was filed by the family of 16-year-old Allen Harris.

Harris collapsed during a summer conditioning workout in July at Federal Way High School.

He died at a local hospital after becoming unconscious and his body went into cardiac arrest.

The medical examiner said Harris had a pre-existing heart condition.

The lawsuit claims the coaches didn’t act and weren’t properly trained to treat the sudden cardiac arrest even though such regular health training is mandated by Washington state law.

The school system said its athletic directors and coaches are trained as required.
