PORT ANGELES – The city of Port Angeles could have a reestablished code-enforcement program in place by later this year.

City manager Nathan West tells KONP, three departments within the city are working to come up with the best way to create the program and who would deal with things like nuisance properties and other code violations.

West says the city council will get a first look at the process later this month…

The city shelved its code enforcement official in 2012 due to budget cutbacks. West says it’s key that when it comes back, it is financially sustainable. He also says the city needs to take a look at the actual codes on its books.

West says that since cutting the program seven years ago, the city has not been in a financial position to bring the position back until now.
