OLYMPIA (AP) — Prosecutors say a Washington state woman has been charged after her German shepherd attacked an 8-year-old boy.

The 41-year-old Spanaway woman is scheduled to be arraigned later this month on a charge of being an owner of a dog that attacks.

According to charging documents, the woman walked out to her car as her dog followed in May 2017.

The dog latched on to the boy, who was playing with his sister in the street.

Doctors said the boy sustained “severe disfiguring” to the neck and puncture wounds to his left shoulder and back.

According to court records, the boy’s family sued the woman, and a judge ordered in January for the woman to pay more than $180,000 to the boy.
