PORT ANGELES – Clallam Fire District 2 has recently purchased a new ambulance, the second in two years and, according to Chief Sam Phillips, better equipment saves lives.

Phillips met with Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue Commissioners Tuesday evening to give them an update on the two new Advance Life Support ambulances they approved in fiscal years 2017 & 2018.

He credits the improvements in response and on-scene times with having modern ambulances at fire stations, which are closer to the incidents instead of deploying out of one centralized location. One ambulance is at Station 22 in the Dry Creek area, and the other is at Gales Addition.

The latest ambulance purchase price was about $167,000 and was paid for with funds from the fire district’s annual capital budget. Phillips says it’s money well spent.
