CLALLAM COUNTY – The 2019 report from the national non-profit organization County Health Rankings is in, and we took a look at how Clallam County compares to other counties in Washington.

The report measures quality of life for each county based on four categories: Health Behaviors, Clinical Care, Social and Economic Factors and Physical Environment.

Out of 39 counties in Washington, Clallam County’s overall rating comes in at 25TH. While we rank in 5Th place for our Physical Environment, 6TH place for our Clinical Care, and 9TH place for our Health Behaviors, our score is dragged down by our placing 36TH in Social and Economic Factors. Those include unemployment, number of children in poverty, single parent households and deaths due to injury, among others.

The top five healthiest counties are: San Juan, King, Snohomish, Island and Thurston.

At the other end, these counties round out the bottom of the list: Pend Oreille, Grays Harbor, Pacific, Columbia and Ferry Counties.

The report compiled data from the last five years to help health providers, businesses and other groups “work on ways to help us all live healthier, happier and longer lives over the next five years and beyond”.
