PORT ANGELES – There’s been an arrest in the Fred’s Guns robbery. Deputy Brian King, Chief Criminal Detective for Clallam County says 38-year-old Joey Maillet was arrested in Snohomish County and transported by State Patrol and ATF officials to Clallam County Monday afternoon.

Clallam County sheriff’s chief criminal deputy Brian King says Maillet has an extensive criminal record in multiple states, has no known address, and at this point is believed to acted alone in the robbery, though investigators are looking into his history for any known ties to gangs or organized crime.

King says the arrest was based on DNA and fingerprint evidence collected at the scene of the crime.

On May 9th, Investigators were advised by the Washington State Patrol Crime Lab that blood DNA collected at the scene matched that of Joey A. Maillet. A second match was made on May 10th.

On May 14th, investigators learned Maillet was in custody at the Whatcom County Jail on charges of theft and drug possession.

Because of that, on May 17th the State Patrol Crime Lab confirmed that one of the latent prints collected from inside a gun display at Fred’s Guns positively matched prints taken from Maillet when he was booked into the Whatcom Jail.

Maillet has been arrested and booked into the Clallam County Jail on State charges of Burglary in the First Degree, 26 counts for Theft of a Firearm, Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and Malicious Mischief in the First Degree.

King speculates Maillet’s first appearance in Clallam Superior Court will be Tuesday at 1:00 pm.
