PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles schools superintendent is recommending a series of property moves he says will better engage with the community and save the district money.

Marty Brewer’s recommendations go before the school board Thursday night.

Among the bigger tasks, Brewer recommends the district move out of its current central services building on Fourth Street and move into the Lincoln Center on 8th Street near the old Lincoln School.

He proposes the district sell the current central services building.

He also envisions leasing extra space available at the Lincoln Center to non-profit community partners that have connections with the school district.

Brewer also recommends the district pursue long-term lease for the now-vacant Fairview School building. He also recommends possibly selling property to south of Stevens Middle School and getting appraisal for property and timber value for some treed property the district owns near the middle school.

There is also a recommendation to develop the former Monroe School property into a sports field for school and community use.

The school board ultimately will have to approve any of the recommendations.
