PORT ANGELES – The Port Angeles city council gets a first look at possible places to relocate the local police and fire dispatch Tuesday night.

Staff have been looking at locations to move PenCom, the police and fire dispatch for numerous agencies across the county that is managed by the city’s police department.

Officials say PenCom has outgrown its current location at the police station and needs to expand. The city has on its work plan this year, exploring options for a joint emergency operations center and PenCom facility. In February, the city council asked staff to work with Clallam County on a potential for the EOC and PenCom.

City staff will present preliminary recommendations on seven locations surveyed in the community. They include an office building on East Lauridsen Boulevard, the former Fanaticus restaurant, the Industrial Technology Building on W 9th St., The Port Angeles School District’s Central Services Building, and city-owned property on west 16th and 18th streets. Also included is the Port of Port Angeles building at Fairchild Airport the county is considering leasing for its EOC. The county sheriff has already proposed sharing the space with the city for PenCom.

The locations were rated on eight criteria ranging from survivability to location, cost effectiveness and ongoing expenses. The port property came back most favorably, followed by the two city-owned properties.

The city council is expected to review the presentation and give staff direction on the next move.
