PORT ANGELES – A Kingston woman was jailed after a high-speed pursuit that ended when she ran off Hurricane Ridge Road.

Saturday evening, police were notified of a vehicle striking several other vehicles near Highway 101 and Brook Avenue east of Port Angeles and fleeing.

Two Port Angeles police officers responded to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect vehicle. Dispatch then received a report that a citizen was following the vehicle, which had turned south on Race Street.

The vehicle was spotted traveling at a high rate of speed south on Race Street, running a red light, and failing to stop for police. The vehicle failed to stop and ran another red light and a stop sign, continuing south on Hurricane Ridge Road and driving in the oncoming lane.

The driver of the vehicle failed to negotiate a turn about three miles up Hurricane Ridge Road and left the roadway, hitting a tree. The driver fled on foot. Police released a K9 track and apprehended 26-year-old Brittany C. Russell.

Russell was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in the collision and was booked into the Clallam County Jail for charges of eluding police, possession of a controlled substance, obstructing police, and driving while license suspended. Multiple counts of hit and run are still being investigated by the Washington State Patrol and Olympic National Park.
