OLYMPIC NATIONAL PARK – A woman appeared in federal court in Tacoma Friday, charged with Burglary and Trespassing, after park rangers found her about to load a safe into her car near a house on Beach Road, which is within the boundaries of Olympic National Park.

Court papers say it was about 3:30 pm when rangers responded to a call from a neighbor and found Michelle Madona Osborn, age and address unknown, pushing the safe in a wheelbarrow in someone’s driveway, behind a damaged security gate. Attached to the safe was broken particle board, as if it had been torn from a wall.

Osborn, by now in handcuffs, told rangers she was kayaking and found the safe under water. Next to her car, not too far from the broken car gate, was a chain. The car was packed with household goods and some glass pipes typically used to smoke controlled substances.

Eventually, a couple that lives at 1165 East Beach Road came home and reported someone had stolen a safe and a kayak. They were later able to open the safe, which contained an antique gun and some ammunition, and rangers noted there was nothing to indicate the safe had ever been in the water.

But we’re guessing alert readers already knew that.
