Authorities say a Clark County sheriff’s deputy escaped serious injury when a driver believed to be operating under the influence plowed into his patrol car on a highway ramp.

The driver crashed head-on into the deputy’s vehicle on an I-5 ramp near Vancouver around 3 a.m. Sunday after the deputy stopped on the ramp to block the driver, who was traveling the wrong way. Neither were named by authorities.

Officials say the driver was not seriously injured and was arrested on suspicion of DUI. The deputy was treated at a nearby hospital.
