PORT ANGELES – Students living in the Port Angeles School District can now complete their studies 100% online. It’s called Seaview Academy, and it’s available to students grades 7 through 12.

Career and Technical Education Principal Cindy Crumb says the district decided to expand their online program in this way when they realized how many local students were already enrolled in similar programs being offered in other school districts.

“We have about a hundred and thirty families that have chosen to go online with another district. And so we know that there’s a need out there in this community who work from home. So we felt like, you know, we were doing a disservice to our families if we didn’t have this offering because it is a really nice way for kids to graduate get their diploma and have more flexibility.

Crumb says there are many reasons that the online option may be the perfect solution for a student.

“Maybe there’s a young mom who can’t find childcare and would still like to stay in school. Maybe there’s somebody who’s out on their own and needs to work part-time online would help them still stay in school. There’s a lot of different reasons that kids choose to do online. And sometimes it’s just the circumstances that life has dealt them and sometimes being in school from 7:30 to 230 just isn’t possible. So it’s just a beautiful thing.”

The district is working now to get the website up and running, which Crumb says should be ready soon. She says they’ll also be announcing an open house after the holidays to read people in on more details.
