STEVENS PASS (AP) — About two feet of snow fell in the Cascade Mountains yesterday, causing so many trees to topple over across the highway that officials closed Highway 2 at Stevens Pass on from about 2:30 p.m. to about 4:45 this morning.

An avalanche warning is in effect Tuesday for much of the Cascades in north and central Washington, according to the Northwest Avalanche Center.

The snow level could reach 1,000 feet by Wednesday morning in the both the Cascades and here in the Olympics.
