MOXEE, Wash. – A man and woman whose burned remains were found Monday in a hop field outside Moxee in Yakima County have been identified.

Yakima County Coroner Jim Curtice says the two – Alyson Harris, 32, and Miguel Martinez-Vasquez, 24 – were identified by some unique tattoos. Their autopsies have been scheduled for next week.

The Yakima County Sheriff’s Office is treating the case as a homicide, but things are just getting started.

Public information officer Casey Schilperoort says an employee who works in the field called 911 after finding the charred bodies near Desmarais Road.

Because the man and woman were found burned, the Sheriff’s Office presumes they were murdered. But investigators are still trying to find out what happened and how the bodies ended up in the hop field.

Sheriff’s deputies don’t yet know if the two died from the burns or if something else caused their deaths first.

Schilperoort said they would divulge more information once the autopsy has been completed.
