PORT ANGELES – A homeless encampment caught fire and burned a downtown Port Angeles building.
Just before 1 AM Monday, Port Angeles Fire Department was dispatched to the scene of the fire in an abandoned two-story building along Front Street attached to Matthew’s Glass.
When firefighters arrived, they say they found a homeless encampment fire on the south side of the building, with fire on the exterior of the structure and beginning to make it’s way into the building.
Crews were able to extinguish the fire from the exterior of the structure in about ten minutes. No one was found inside the building.
The exact cause and an estimate of the loss to the property is still under investigation.
