SEQUIM – Sequim Irrigation Festival officials announced this afternoon that the Festival will be postponed because of virus concerns.

That means all scheduled events, including the Kick-off Dinner that was to have been held this coming Saturday, will be postponed.

Festival Director Deon Kapetan says the sheer scale of the festival made it necessary to make the call when they did.

“Because it’s not just the parade, it’s not just the logging show. There’s numerous events. We felt like it was our responsibility to protect our community. If we had to cancel at the very last minute, it would be even more detrimental to all of the work that’s gone into the festival. So we’re just going to take pause and regroup and hopefully focus on helping our community. So that’s where we’re at right now. It’s disappointing, but I feel like it’s the best thing for our community.”

The 125th Sequim Irrigation Festival was scheduled to run from May 1-10.
