Gov. Inslee announced an effort to resupply Washington state’s food banks, which are running dangerously low on supplies due to the coronavirus outbreak.

An estimated 1.6 million people across the state are expected to seek food aid in the coming days and weeks due to loss of income. That is double the usual number that rely on food banks.

The relief effort, called WA Food Fund, is being managed by Philanthropy Northwest, a network of philanthropic organizations. The effort will combine business and philanthropic dollars with donations from individuals to have the most effect.

Donations will be directed to three organizations that deliver food to every food bank across Washington – Food Lifeline; Northwest Harvest; and Second Harvest.
