SEATTLE (AP) — Inmates at Monroe State Prison asked the state Supreme Court to order the release of some offenders after almost a dozen people tested positive for the new coronavirus.
State officials say the process of letting inmates out will take time. Six inmates at Monroe have the disease and officials said they’re awaiting results on 54 other cases. Five workers at the facility also tested positive.
The inmates filed a motion with the Supreme Court asking it to order the release of older inmates; those with underlying health conditions and those who are close to their release date. The state says the case should be argued in a few weeks.
