SEATTLE – The covid-19 outbreak has infected 14 staff members at the UW Medicine Northwest Campus in north Seattle. Reports say those affected are nurses, certified nursing assistants and therapists, among others.

Dr. Seth Cohen, the hospital’s medical director, said it is the largest single outbreak among UW Medicine staff so far.

The staff who got sick all work in a former medical surgical unit that has since been converted to serve patients who don’t have COVID-19.

Hospital officials believe it passed from one staff member to the next, most likely when they sat in employee break rooms.    Cohen says no patients are known to have been infected. The unit has since undergone deep-cleaning and break rooms have strict occupancy limits.

All 14 nurses and therapists who got sick are now home recovering and are said to be in stable condition.
