WOODWAY, Wash. — A state agency says an airplane has been scheduled to drop insecticide in Snohomish County to stop an invasive moth from spreading and to prevent damage to forest foliage.

The Washington state Department of Agriculture announced Monday about 2 square miles in Wooday and an Everett neighborhood will be sprayed from the air.

Officials say the $300,000 treatment could take place between now and June depending on the weather and hatching season. Federal funds are expected to cover about 80% of the cost.

Experts say the Hokkaido gypsy moths native to Asia arrived in Snohomish County forests last year.
