Gov. Jay Inslee announced Wednesday that the state’s stay-home order will extend past the May 4 expiration, and said he’d give a detailed explanation of a phased-in approach to reopening the economy on Friday.

It was not immediately clear how long the order would be extended or what changes would be made.

The governor also indicated that “non-urgent,” or elective, surgeries would soon be allowed to resume. The Washington State Hospital Association has been urging Inslee to let elective procedures resume, saying hospital facilities have plenty of capacity amid a decline in COVID-19 patients.
