PORT ANGELES – Radio Pacific, Inc. (the parent company for KONP/KSTI/KZQM) raised more than $13,000 for local food banks by asking listeners to “text to give.”

When schools started closing, and the pandemic fears hit Clallam County,  Radio Pacific staff realized they needed to do something.  General Manager Sue Ellen Riesau talks about what prompted the “Text To Donate Campaign”.

“Because we have a history of helping the Port Angeles food bank for many years now. Like I don’t know 30. I thought let’s ask the community for a little bit more. We got the whole staff together the next morning and had a staff meeting and decided that’s what we wanted to do was raise money to give all the food banks a boost.”

And thanks to all of the stations’ listeners, and a little help from Coastal Farm and Ranch in Sequim, Radio Pacific will be giving the Sequim Food Bank, the Port Angeles Food Bank and Salvation Army a total of $13,579.

“I expected that we’d be able to raise money. I know that KONP has a really good solid reputation in the community of helping the food bank. We all just felt like this was this was the thing that we could do with the power of broadcast, you know, if we have the airwaves and it was successful.”

Radio Pacific’s crew say they were honored to have been a part of the community effort, adding that none of it would have been possible without very generous listeners to the local radio stations.

“Thank you so much for being such a caring community as a whole we’re so lucky to live somewhere where people really do genuinely care. I love our community.”
